Relationship and You

when a man or lady is not married to you yet and yet he/she parades u to his/her friends and family,it could trap u down and keep u down if u are emotionally attached to how they feel. The focus is on u and your future and what u desire for yourself. Sometimes they hurt u,break ur heart and do this and that and when u feel like leaving, the family and friends will come begging on their behalf. It is a good strategy to keep u in the relationship. But how long will they play his/puppet and beg u to always stay? They are not the one feeling the pains and going through the things u go through and sometimes they don't understand and so it is easy for them to beg u to stay. But when really is it about them? If the person they are begging for hasn't changed and isn't changing, then how long will this go on? Till marriage? Then u are finally trapped!! I am not easily influenced by others, not even my own family. If I know this isn't right for me,NO ONE can make me stay cos I alone know and understand how I feel and what I am going through.
SaharaReporters has learned that a sister of a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor, Iyke Enemuo, who recently died from the Ebola virus, fled to Abia State to avoid being quarantined along with others who came into contact with the late doctor. However, one of her siblings, who is also a doctor, forced her to return to the quarantine center in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. The woman helped care for her doctor brother as he suffered from the debilitating disease caused by the Ebola virus. At least 200 people who came in contact with Dr. Enemuo, who died last Friday in Port Harcourt, have been placed in quarantine for close medical watch.Dr. Enemuo had contracted the virus when he was secretly treating a staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who, in turn, had had contact with Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian-American who initially brought the disease into Nigeria. Mr. Sawyer had slumped at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos shortly after arriving there on July 20. He was rushed to a Lagos Hospital where he died five days later. A doctor, Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, and two nurses who helped care for Mr. Sawyer in Lagos have also died.SaharaReporters discovered that the ECOWAS diplomat who had had contact with Mr. Sawyer flew to Port Harcourt the sameday the Liberian American died, and met up with Dr. Enemuo. Apparently aware of the deadly nature of the disease afflicting the diplomat, Dr. Enemuo opted to treat him secretly at a local hotel. After recovering, the ECOWAS staff flew back to Lagos to seek clearance to travel out of Nigeria. Quarantined and checked for Ebola in Lagos, he was found to be free of the virus. However, a few days after he left Port Harcourt, Dr. Enemuo took ill and washospitalized at Good Health Hospital in Port Harcourt where he died of the disease. The hospital has been closed down, and close to 70 people immediately quarantined by Nigerian health officials. However, as at last night, more than 200 people who had been in contact with Dr. Enemuo and the ECOWAS diplomat had been quarantined as well. Dr. Enemuo's wife recently took ill with Ebola symptoms.

Ebola : School owners;FG on collision course

Ebola: School Owners, FG On Collision Course by Ktwice ( m ): 8:06am
Private school owners in Lagos State
and the Federal Government may
clash over the latter's order directing
all primary and secondary schools in
the country to resume on October 13,
2014, instead of the anticipated
September 15.
The school owners, under the umbrella
of the National Association of
Proprietors of Private Schools, believe
that the directive is unnecessary and
should not be considered as part of the
measures to prevent the spread of
Ebola virus in the country.
They expressed their feeling at a
sensitisation programme on Ebola
held on Thursday at Victory Grammar
School, Ikeja, Lagos.
The Minister of Education, Mallam
Ibrahim Shekarau, had announced the
resumption date after a meeting with
the 36 state commissioners of
education on Tuesday in Abuja
But speaking at the sensitisation
programme, the Lagos State President
of the National Association of
Proprietors of Private Schools, Mr.
Yomi Otubela, said, "We have sent our
appeal to the Federal Government
through the Lagos State Special
Adviser on Public Health informing it
that if religious organisations and
other places are left open, these
children could as well contract the
virus there.
"If markets that have more crowd than
what we have in schools are not
asked to close down, then we wonder
why the government will not allow us
put preventive measures in place and
allow these children return to school.
School is supposed to be a place of
knowledge and we are to educate and
expose them to the knowledge on
what they need to know to prevent the
spread of the virus, not keeping them
out of schools and keeping them
ignorant of what is happening."
But the Special Adviser to the Lagos
State Government on Public Health,
Dr. Yewande Adeshina, disagreed with
the school owners, asking them to
abide by the Federal Government's
directive.
She also asked them not to place
priority on their financial wellbeing
over the physical wellbeing of the
school children.
The founder of Supreme Educational
Foundation Schools, Mrs. Adenike
Adamolekun, also said the directive by
the Federal Government was
senseless.
She said, "Just as we are praising the
Federal Government for being
proactive in containing the Ebola virus,
we are also condemning them on this
one. It does not make sense at all.
Even if they had any doubt, what they
needed to have done was to have put
together some precautions and extend
it to all schools, ensuring that all
schools abide by them.
"Shutting the schools for a whole
month, considering the fact they will be
shut down next year again because of
elections, is a bad idea. Moreover,
parents do not know what to do with
those kids. I think this is an
unnecessary approach to the issue."
A school proprietress, Dr. Maggie Ibru,
stated that what the Federal
Government could have done was to
provide hand sanitisers in all private
and public schools in the country.
She said it was in the capability of the
Federal Government to provide hand
sanitisers and increase the level of
sanitisation in all schools in the
country.
She said, "No, the Federal Government
got it wrong on this one because this
will not stop the students from
participating in international
examinations. What the government
should have done is to supply all
schools with hand sanitisers, both
private and public, because who attend
the private schools too are Nigerians.
"They should allow the children to go
back to school. What to do is simple:
the Federal Government could have
increased the sensitisation level on
Ebola prevention in our schools and if
possible, give a directive to all schools
not to allow guests enter their
premises, or rather mandate every
child and visitor be subjected to a test
before entering the school premises.
These are the measures that the
Federal Government should have
taken."
Meanwhile, inadequate test and
treatment centres for the Ebola Virus
Disease has been identified as one of
the greatest challenges threatening the
government's efforts to contain the
spread of the deadly virus.
Though four test centres have been set
up in the Lagos University Teaching
Hospital; Centre for Disease Control in
Asokoro, Abuja; University College
Hospital, Ibadan; and the Redeemers
University Laboratory, Kilometer 35
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, doctors,
who spoke with Saturday PUNCH,
flayed the government over what they
called inadequate test and treatment
centres in the country.
They said that adequate test and
treatment centres are very important
to the management of Ebola outbreak
among other measures such as
sufficient isolation facilities and
protective kits for medical personnel.
According to them, it is unheard of for
a country of over 160 million people to
rely on four test centres at a time it is
faced with a deadly disease that has,
in the World Health Organisation's
estimation, killed 1,552 people in West
Africa.
The Ebola Virus Disease was on July
24, 2014 imported to Nigeria by a 40-
year-old Liberian-Ame

Reconciliation is out of it... I cannot reconcile with my ex...... Saidi Balogun

There has been rumours that since the estranged couple managed to work together in a movie, there is a possibility that they would reconcile and start living as husband and wife for the sake of their kids. But Saidi Balogun dropped the bombshell in a chat with Encomium, declaring that he was not ready to reconcile with his ex-wife, Fathia, and as a matter of fact, they will never talk again for life. The popular actor is angry, he said he and Fathia have not communicated in over 8 years:"People don't understand what's really going on between us. I believe that's why they are peddling the rumour. There is no logic in it at all."I think it's because they saw us in Mercy Aigbe's new movie, Life After Marriage, that's why they imagined we're back in love. The marketer of the movie only used Fathia and myself to promote themovie. And so far people saw the two of us in the movie, they started peddling the rumour that the movie was meant to reconcile us."The funniest thing is that we didn't act together on the set of the movie. We didn't even see each other for once. I acted my role separately, she also did hers separately. Our paths didn't cross at all…"On the set of Life After Marriage till the production ended. So, I don't know how people arrived at the conclusion that we have reconciled. After how many years? That's a big joke."Asked if they have started communicating with each other as being bandied, he reacted,"There is nothing like that, my brother. On what basis will that communication be? To be honest, the last time we spoke was 2006. I have since moved on. I thank God for that. We don't have any reason to talk to each other. It can't happen at all."You may wish to know that the couple had two children, Khalid and Halia, before breaking up.

The Federal Government of Nigeria yesterday said it will put over all
schools activities in the country until the Ebola virus issue in the
country dies down.
As a preventive measures against the killer virus that has already
killed 5 in Lagos, all private and public schools' resumption has been
postponed till October 13, 2014.
Hear what Education minister, Ibrahim Shekarau said during a meeting
of senior teachers in Nigeria yesterday.
"All primary and secondary schools in private and public sectors are
to remain closed until Monday, October 13.This is to ensure that
adequate preventive measures are put in place before students
resume," he said.
Before now, Nigerian students had been scheduled to return to school
on the 15th of September.

ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE & THE ELEVATION OF USELESSNESS

So I was with a couple of great friends when we happened to come across a video of the actress Genevieve being doused with ice water.

She jumped up immediately, arms flailing all over the place, hopping excitedly. "I was not ready!" She was screaming, "I wasn't ready!"

Dr. Ameyor Adadevor died last week. She saved countless lives in Nigeria from the ravages of a near 100% fatality rate disease. And she paid the ultimate price in a country where the premium placed on lives are nothing to write home about.

I did not see anyone jumping around.

Well over a thousand have died in Africa from the EVD scourge that has been, rightly, described as a Global Threat. And that disease has not been kept under control.

I did not see anyone pouring water over themselves.

Our girls are still missing and Boko Haram has annexed an increasing portion of Nigerian land with thousands and thousands bombed out of existence and tens of thousands living in constant fear in the face of government ineptitude to adequately match this security challenge.

I saw practically few celebrities think up INNOVATIVE and CREATIVE ways that would trend and KEEP THE SUBJECT ALIVE as well as CONTRIBUTE towards the cause rather than act as a "fun game" or a "PR stunt".

Millions die EVERYDAY from Malaria. This is OUR REALITY.

ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease is NOT REMOTELY our problem.

What are we doing prancing about like spoilt children solving other people's problems when we have HUGE problems of our own?

There is something darkly sinister about a country that withholds a drug [ZMAPP] from Nigeria, yet tells us not to use Nano-Silver which gives us a slight chance at survival... And I see something laughably ridiculous about pouring water over ourselves and contributing to cure someone else's problems when we still have our own problems.

Africa THINK!

Love: when the door of happiness closes, another opens. But oftentimes we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one that has been opened to us. You loved him/Her so much and did everything you could. But when he/she walks away from u,God brings someone better your way. But often times we look so long into the past hurt that we don't see the one standing in front of us with a whole lot of love to offer us. Giving someone all your love doesn't mean they will love u back.

Limited Time

Topic : Limited Time
The time u ve in this life is limited according to d word of God. Brethren, do not misuse ur time that God gave u. Coming to this earth is by d grace and mercy of God. Everything has its own season, u do not need to rush before u ascend to greatness, what u need to do is to stay where God is programming ur life.
Remember this morning that u ve limited time on this earth, u cannot live forever in this world, in dust u came, in dust u shall return. Now, ur days are numbered, use ur days the way God wants it cos all days are recorded in heaven. Take a new step today before it's too late. God bless u. Why o why

Why do we enjoy quarreling with the one we love? Why the fight? Why the suspecious behavior? Why eager to find fault or something to quarrel about? Why go through things in an act of investigation to know what he/she is up to? Why do we feel sad and angry when we discover these things we are searching for? It is an act of distrust and when we become so insecure,we have lost ourselves and we can be sure he/she will end up in someone's else's arm. Let us be people of honor and integrity. Let us be people that he/she will look at and have so much respect for and wouldn't wish to do anything that will cause separation. Let us be so mature and civil that they can't find our type or even think of wishing to be with someone else. Build a standard for yourself. Upgrade the respect your spouse have for you by being the best they will ever have. Me I don upgrade. Anyone who misbehave around me now definitely don't know what they are looking for and they will loose terribly bad and I will bounce forward.

Praise God. Ebola has finally been defeated.

Thank God. Wow! This is really good news…The first Ebola patient confirmed positive has been discharged in Lagos.
The Minster of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu confirmed this saying the patient, a female doctor now tested negetive.
He however did not reveal her name. He also said five of those undergoing treatment have almost recovered. He also said Nanosilver (the drug which was to be used on Ebola Patients) failed to pass the ethical test, will not be used.

Being faithful and committed to your relationship isn't only when he/she is there.
But when he/she is not there, can u hold on and be upright in all you do?
When I was little my dad always tell us "Don't be an angel when I am around and when I am not around u become a devil"
How faithful and responsible u are will be determined when u are faced with temptations and especially when your partner is far away and no one is monitoring u. That is when your true nature and the strength of love will show.

You complain too much about your partner.
You talk so much about their imperfections and how it angers u and causes problems for u two.
But have u knelt down to really pray for him/her?
The bible says "You haven't received because you haven't asked"
The bible also said "Ask and you shall receive"
Why not pray for your partner? Why haven't you prayed?
Prayer!!! Not complain!! And don't even bother praying anger. But pray with a meek heart and let God take control and help your relationship become better.

Topic: Who is too strong to catch?
There is no one above the great and mighty God. The one and only who has d best principle that the world could not comprehend, d one and only who can kill and resurrect. Isaiah asked, 'Is there anyone greater than God?' No one and we can never see.
Now, who do u think is greater than God, is it Satan and all his entourage or who do u think? Ask urself that wonderful question. Brethren, remember the day of d Lord is at hand, very soon Jesus shall cum. Prepared do not say u re free no matter how when He cums, re u faithful to rapture wit m, ask uself this questn remember that small lie, jilt, bribe, fornication, whoremonger, selfish, u know these have not totally erase frm ur life. Devil is very cunny. He knows ur weakness, try to understand today, u know how much u love money rather than ur God. Do u even have time to pray to God, wot of evangelism, do u, or re u saying is only Man of God are legible to do it not u?
Heee!!!! Anything u do, remember heaven is recording it. Start doing it as frm today. God bless. Jesus loves u. Bye.

10 Signs You Are Sleep Deprived

Always counting on an alarm clock in order to wake up on time
You just love punching that snooze button
You have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning
You feel sluggish in the afternoons
You are frequently sleepy in meetings, lectures, or warm rooms
Drowsiness after heavy meals or when driving
Need to nap to get through the day
Falling asleep while watching TV or relaxing in the evening
Feel the need to sleep in on weekends
Fall asleep within five minutes of going to bed
Sounds like most of us right? We are so used to this symptoms that they don't look like a big deal. You probably have no idea just how much lack of sleep is affecting you.
The effects include:
Fatigue, lethargy, and lack of motivation
Moodiness and irritability
Reduced creativity and problem-solving skills
Inability to cope with stress
Reduced immunity; frequent colds and infections
Concentration and memory problems
Weight gain
Impaired motor skills and increased risk of accidents
Difficulty making decisions
Increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems
Ever noticed how when you're short on sleep you crave sugary foods that give you a quick energy boost? There's a good reason for that. Sleep deprivation has a direct link to overeating and weight gain.
There are two hormones in your body that regulate normal feelings of hunger and fullness. Ghrelin stimulates appetite, while leptin sends signals to the brain when you are full. However, when don't get the sleep you need, your ghrelin levels go up, stimulating your appetite so you want more food than normal, and your leptin levels go down, meaning you don't feel satisfied and want to keep eating. So, the more sleep you lose, the more food your body will crave.
If these symptoms and effects speak to you, your resolve should be to get some more hours of sleep at night. Go to bed early if you must, and reduce distractions in the room (TV on, music, etc) so you can get as much deep sleep as possible. You will feel much better, and your long term health will be improved.

BREAKING: Fashola Orders Reversal Of LASU Fees To Old Charges

Mr. Fashola stated this on Thursday at the convocation programme of the university.
The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has directed that the controversial fee hike at the Lagos State University, LASU, be reversed.
Mr. Fashola stated this on Thursday at the convocation programme of the university.
He said the fees would now be returned to the old charges.
The reversal comes after months of protests by students and lecturers of the university.
The Lagos State Government had, earlier in 2011, increased the fees from N25, 000 to N198, 000 for humanities and education, while medical students were to pay N350, 000.
After the protests, the state government approved a reduction by 34 to 60 per cent. That reduction would have seen students pay between N76, 750 and N158, 250 depending on the faculty and year of study.
That reduction was still opposed by the students and the lecturers.
Thursday's announcement by the governor could, however, lead to a reversal to the 2011 charges.
Details later…

The Federal government has declared the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria a matter of national Emergency, adding that everyone is now at risk of being infected.
Speaking with State House correspondence at the end of today's Federal Executive Council meeting, the Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu said the Nigerian government has written to the Director of the United State Centre for Disease Control to request for the release of some of the unapproved ZMAG drug which has proven to be useful in the treatment of the Ebola disease. He said the Federal government awaits a response from the United state government and hopeful if the drugs are released, they could be used to treat the confirmed cases of the Ebola virus disease in Nigeria. Continue...
The Minister advised Nigerians to avoid handshake as much as possible, stating that the virus is both contagious and infectious. He also said the virus could also be contacted through the sharing of bedspreads, pillow cases and towels among other personal effects with infected person. He said the disease is not airborne but at close range of a 1meter from an infected person, the disease droplets can be transmitted.
The Minister also revealed that Isolation tent for each confirmed case cost the government as much as N20million. As regards the corpse of a Nigerian brought in from Liberia last week into Anambra state which caused Ebola scare in the state, the Minister said thorough examination on the corpse showed the man did not die of the deadly disease.
As part of strategies to rise to the national emergency, Chukwu said a website, www.ebolaalert.org, has been designed to offer information on the virus.

We Must Impeach Governor Al-Makura ––PDP Lawmakers

Members of the PDP in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has said that it will go ahead and impeach the governor of the state, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information and Security, Baba Ibaku, stated this in a chat with Punch in Lafia on Wednesday. He insisted there is no going back on the impeachment move against Al-Makura.
He said the panel set up by the Chief Judge, Justice Umaru Dikko, to investigate charges against the governor, breached Section 188 Subsection (5) of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
The lawmaker stated, "As far as we are concerned, there is no seven-man panel that is investigating Governor Al-Makura, because we had earlier asked the state chief judge to disband the panel.
Governor lauded the decision of the judicial panel.
Al-Makura, who gave the commendation in an interview with journalists in Lafia, described the outcome of the panel as a victory for democracy.
The governor said, "My victory is for the rule of law. I am sure the people of goodwill and the people of Nasarawa State, even without coming to the tribunal, know who the governor is and what he could do and what he can or not do. My vindication is for the good people of Nasarawa State.

Ebola Death Toll Rises

Health officials in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday reported deaths of citizens they suspect were infected with Ebola, and Spain said it will accept a patient from the West African outbreak, adding to concerns about the spread of the deadly virus.
Nigeria reported that a nurse died after treating someone believed to have contracted Ebola in Liberia, and Saudi Arabia reported that a man died, apparently of the virus, after a trip to Sierra Leone.
The World Health Organization did not immediately confirm the deaths.
A Spanish priest who contracted the disease in Liberia will be flown to Madrid and become the Europe's first patient from this outbreak, according to the Spanish government.
WHO said Wednesday that 932 deaths had been reported or confirmed as a result of Ebola through Monday. That number -- up from 887 reported just two days ago -- does not include the latest death in Nigeria or the death in Saudi Arabia.
Nearly all of those deaths have been in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, where more than 1,700 cases have been reported, according to WHO. The agency said 108 new cases were reported between Saturday and Monday in those countries and Nigeria.
The nurse in Nigeria had helped care for a Liberian-American man (Patrick Sawyer) who had died in Nigeria after traveling there from Liberia, Nigeria's Ministry of Health said Wednesday.
Nigeria has confirmed another five cases of Ebola, the Health Ministry said.
The Saudi man died Wednesday at a specialized hospital in Jeddah, the Saudi Ministry of Health said.
He had been in intensive care since late Monday "after exhibiting symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever following a business trip to Sierra Leone," the ministry said in a statement

Ebola: LASG summons mortuary operators, funeral homes

Towardsensuring the effective monitoring of corpses in the mortuaries in Lagos, the Health Facility and Accreditation Monitoring Agency, HEFAMA, in collaboration with the Federal/StateJoint Task Force, has summoned operators of private mortuaries and funeral homes in the state to a stakeholders’ meeting.Medics in full gear to avoid contracting the virusThe meeting scheduled to hold this week is designed to provide further enlightenment and education on handling of corpses in the wake of the Ebola virus disease outbreak.Disclosing this, weekend, state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris said it had become expedient to empower the mortuary operators with information and protective equipment towards ensuring that effective preventive measures are taken against the spread of the Ebola virus disease.Idris, who cautioned private mortuary operators against accepting corpses with suspicious or unknown cause of death or death certificates not certified by qualified medical personnel, said in order to avoid unnecessary risk of exposure to contracting the Ebola virus, all private mortuaries in the state would need to be more careful. The Board of Traditional Medical Practitioners, faith-based organisations would equally be holding training and enlightenment programmes on the disorder. The operators were urged to show high level of hygiene at this time to avoid contracting viral infections.Meanwhile, as part of efforts to reduce the chances of contracting the Ebola virus, the World Health Organisation, WHO, has urged for alternative modes of greeting apart from handshakes. The WHO also advised people to wash their hands regularly with soap under running water as part of hygiene etiquette to avoid the Ebola virus and other contagious diseases.

2015: Don’t campaign for me yet, says Tambuwal

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, said on Sunday that it was against the law of the land for anybody to start campaigning for elective positions in the 2015 poll when the Independent National Electoral Commission had yet to give politicians the nod to do so.Tambuwal in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, dissociated himself from the posters flooding some parts of the Federal Capital Territory, promoting him as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Although, he thanked the promoters of the idea for considering him worthy to vie for the Presidency, the Speaker advised them not to violate the law by initiating campaign ahead of the official declaration by INEC.The posters had paired Tambuwal and his Deputy, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, as president and vice-president respectively on the ticket of the APC.Part of the statement, which was signed by the Speaker’s Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Imam Imam, read, “While we thank them for deeming the Rt. Hon. Speaker fit for future elective office in the country, let it be known that since the Independent National Electoral Commission has not given the go-ahead for those interested in elective positions to start mobilisation, it is inappropriate for any person or group to print campaign posters and have them placed in strategic locations in any part of the country.“Laws of the Federation are meant to be obeyed by all persons irrespective of their societal status.“As a law abiding citizen, the Honourable Speaker will make known the direction of his political future and intention at the appropriate time.”The statement neither dissociated the Speaker from the APC nor stress that he remained a committed member of the PDP.On his part, Ihedioha dismissed the alleged links with the APC as “laughable, completely nonsensical” and coming at a time he wason a PDP assignment with President GoodluckIhedioha pledged his loyalty to the PDP, adding that since 2011, he had worked hard to reposition the party in his home state, Imo.A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Oke Epia, read, “Thegeneral public is hereby urged to ignore the posters and see this incident as the handiwork of mischief makers who are advised to find better things to do with their time and resources.“The deputy speaker is fully focused on and committed to rebuilding the Peoples Democratic Party nationally and in Imo State where he has remained a bulwark of the ruling party since the opposition took over the reins of government at that level in 2011.“Nothing can distract the deputy speaker and other leaders of the party in Imo State from working conscientiously to dislodge the APC government in Imo State and also ensure victory for the party at the federal level in 2015.“He assures his numerous supporters and associates both in ImoState and all over Nigeria that no amount of mischief can stop or derail the PDP train of progress moving into Imo with the Deputy Speaker in the driver’s seat.”In spite of consistent denials by Tambuwal, speculation thickens that he has been considered as a possible APC presidential candidate.A second plan, should that fail, is that he will probably run as the party’s governorship candidate in his home state, Sokoto, in 2015.Tambuwal has refused to make a categorical statement on the issue, preferring to keep mum each time it is raised.Last month, the House caucus of the PDP had endorsed Jonathan for a second term at a meeting held at the Aso Rock Villa, where Tambuwal, the most senior PDP official in the House, was absent. The next day, Tambuwal merely blamed his absence on the excuse of being out of town to Sokoto. He declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting, which endorsed Jonathan. On the other hand, Ihedioha, had never been linked with the APC prior to the pasting of the controversial posters. He is said to have his eye on the governorship seat in his state, but has reportedly worked largely behind the scenes for the PDP’sticket till date.

Doctors disagree over strike

President of the NMA
About two months after calling out its members for a nationwide strike, the Nigerian Medical Association appears to be divided on whether to suspend the action or not.A press conference that was scheduled to take place on Sunday was put off for undisclosed reasons. The Secretary-General of the association just came and apologised to journalists, promising that the association would call them soon.He said, “Please, bear with us. We will call you in 48 hours time.”But an emergency meeting of the NMA leadership, which kicked off by 3pm, was still ongoing as of the time of this report (6:20 pm).The NMA had been on strike over some irreconciliable differenceswith the Federal Government. The PUNCHwas informed that at the meeting attended by some past presidents of the NMA, there were disagreements on whetherto shelve the strike or not.Among those at the meeting were three past Presidents of the association: its immediate-past President and a delegate to the ongoing National Conference, Dr. Osahon Enabulele; another pastPresident of the NMA, Dr. Omede Idris; and Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Prosper Igboele.Others who were said to be at the meeting include a member, Board of Trustees of the NMA and Emir of Songa, His Royal Highness Haliru Yahaya; the Registrar, National PostGraduate Medical College, Prof. Wole Atoyebi, and a former leader of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.A source said, “The NMA leadership is divided on the strike; whilesome, led by its current President, Dr. Kayode Obembe, are pushing for the suspension of the action, others said they would not suspend the action when the Federal Government has not listened to them.“If we suspend the action now, the present government and even subsequent governments won’t take us seriously any time we declare nationwide strike again. That is the major issue, and not any insinuation that somebody has been settled.”The President of NMA, Obembe, had a few weeks after his election, premised the strike on the failure of the Federal Government to address the doctors’ demands, saying there was no going back. The NMA had sent 24 demands to the government, including discontinuation of recognition of non-medical doctors as directors and consultants. The demands also include appointment of a Surgeon – General ofthe Federation, payment of clinical duty and hazard allowances and withdrawal of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s circular on medical laboratory equipment.“The NMA is taking this painful route because our silence and gentle approach to these contending issues have been taken for granted. We have to take this action in order to save the health care delivery system from anarchy that is palpably imminent. We hereby appeal to all Nigerians for their understanding and call on government to meet with our demands,” he stated.Obembe had stated that the failure of the government to address NMA’s demands had left the association with no other option than “to call all its members to down tool in order to press home their demands.”Copyright PUNCH.All rights reserved.
