HOW TO MOTIVATE YOUR STAFFS

I have been to some work environment where staffs are up and doing, ready to contribute their time and their efforts.

They are not entitled but engaging, once you walk into the organization, you just see and notice life everywhere.

While some schools are just like parked trailers that cannot self start, expecting to be pushed to start, They are just plain unmotivating, no life, no sense of a future, no sense of purpose, people are lethargic, no sense of work, purpose or direction, no sense of contribution.

The difference maker in both environments isn't the staffs in it…. The difference maker is the LEADERSHIP IN IT.

As cruel and cold as that may sound it's the truth.

THE KIND OF ENVIRONMENT YOUR SCHOOL IS REFLECTS THE KIND OF LEADERSHIP AT PLAY IN THE SCHOOL

To get the best out of your staffs you must.
1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE IN ALL YOU DO
2. Know that Affirmation comes before Confrontation
3. Praise publicly and correct privately
4. Use affirming words with your staffs e.g thank you, great, that is excellent
5. Challenge them to be better and consistently measure their performance
6. Appreciate them with gifts at specific periods of time and fulfill your promissory obligations.

Let me tell you a little story on gift appreciation.

While I was working at the bank, they leadership of the bank led by a couple of whites came up with the idea of rewarding all staffs of the bank with a specific gift per month.

That gift was a REFILL PACK of peak milk. They did it consistently for years and we all look forward to this refill pack every month.

As small as that gift was to us then, I can tell you we all looked forward to it.

A month came when the bank thought the refill pack was becoming expensive to maintain, so they cancelled it out and left our dear PEAK MILK out of our end of the month bonus.

Guess what the sales of the bank Nosedived that month, they immediately restored back the Peak milk and everything returned back to normalcy.

A little appreciation this December / ONCE A MONTH will go a long way with your staffs.
