TOPIC: Nationalism
Nationalism is a system created by people who believe their nation is superior to all others. Most often, this sense of superiority has its roots in a shared ethnicity. Sometimes nationalism makes people not want to work with other countries to solve shared problems.


PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor):
define Nationalism. 
ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils are required to already have learned… 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
Pictures 
Magazines 
Textbook 
METHOD OF TEACHING
Explanatory 
Discussion 
Interaction 
Questions and Answers 
REFERENCE MATERIALS

Search Engine/Internet

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
NATIONALISM 

Nationalism is the belief that one's national culture and interests are superior to any other, and that nations should act independently (rather than collectively) to attain their goals. Also, it is the belief that a people who share a common language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation, free of foreign domination.

The Nigerian nationalists' goal of achieving an independent sovereign state of Nigeria was achieved in 1960 when Nigeria declared its independence and British colonial rule ended.

LIST OF TOP NATIONALISTS IN NIGERIA 
Nnamdi Azikiwe was born in 1904. He is the first president of Nigeria and the founder of Nigerian nationalism. He is popularly called 'Zik' or 'Zik of Africa'. Zik helped establish the University of Nigeria after independence in 1962. 
Herbert Macaulay was pivotal in Nigeria's fight to gain independence although he didn't live to see this become a reality. He also created the National Council of Nigeria and Cameroon in the 1940s along with Nnamdi Azikiwe. 
Ahmadu Bello was born in 1919, Ahmadu Bello was another key figure in the country's fight for independence. He was a school teacher that later became the Premier of the Northern Nigeria 
Anthony Enahoro is another famous Nigerian personality. He's well known for his social activism. He's popularly known as the "Father of the Nigerian State" 
Obafemi Awolowo is another undisputed national hero. He was born in 1909 and was the first Premier of Western Nigeria. Also, he was a one time minister of Finance. 
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
Explains the meaning of Nationalism;
Asks pupils to mention contributions of any nationalist they know;
Pupil's Activities – Mention the names of some nationalists and their achievements. 
CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week's lesson.

LESSON EVALUATION
Pupils to:

define Nationalism.
