'I will improve on the network Fashola laid down' - Ambode

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode says he will fulfill his promise to improve the network his predecessor Raji Fashola laid down before leaving office. Ambode said this at the 2015 Ojude Oba Epe Festival held at the Epe Recreation Ground, Epe Lagos today Sept. 27th.
"One of the things that we did promise during the campaign is that we would continue with the infrastructural development of my predecessor and at the same time improve on it and that's what we've started with areas where we feel that there are immediate palliatives that we can give, we have done that but more importantly, is for us to improve on the network in which Mr. Babatunde Fashola had actually laid down.
I have no choice, I have to do it for all Lagosians, that's what I am committed to do, I have said I am going to be selfless about service and that's what I am going to do and you will see it. What I have done in the last three months is to set up the institutional framework and If you want to build a house, you have to lay the foundation, you will now see what I'll be doing in the next three and half years, just watch and you would see it," he said

Army Exposes Big Men Plotting To Prolong Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army has raised the alarm over plans by "some highly-placed individuals" in the North East, particularly Borno State, to sabotage military operations in the region.
"The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public and send a very strong and serious final warning to some prominent individuals and political groups who hailed from Borno State in particular and North East generally, that there is information of plans by some highly placed individuals and political groups to undermine and scuttle the fight against terrorism and insurgency in this country.
"The unscrupulous individuals and their cohorts were determined to reverse the gains made and scuttle our efforts of achieving the Presidential directive to defeat Boko Haram terrorists within 3 months. They are enlisting the services of some Non-Governmental Organizations in this grand design...
"It has come to our knowledge that they were employing every means to see that the operation does not succeed in order for them to continue to enjoy certain benefits.

"It has been revealed that they are employing the services of marabouts and other unethical means in order to frustrate our efforts and the operations in addition to campaign of calumny.

"We are aware of their clandestine meetings and other diabolical efforts to achieve their nefarious aims. This would not be tolerated.

"Therefore, such individuals and groups should be warned in unmistakable terms that anyone found would be dealt with accordingly.

"People should place the interest of the nation above any personal gain or ambition. The continued lost of lives and property in this country through terrorists activities does not one any good."

A statement released by the army spokesman, Sani Usman, said the elite were bent on having the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists prolonged for their selfish interests.

I wonder why some people are just heartless. What will they benefit if Boko Haram continue to kill?

Group Spends Money In Law Suit Asking Court To Give Monkey The Copyright Of A Photograph He took

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals filed a lawsuit in San Francisco seeking to give a monkey ownership of its selfie photo. The group filed a U.S. federal court lawsuit in San Francisco arguing Naruto, a macaque monkey known to researchers in Indonesia, should be the legal owner of pictures he snapped in 2011 using a camera set up by photographer David J. Slater.

The lawsuit names Slater; his company, Wildlife Personalities Ltd.; and publisher Blurb, which issued a collection of Slater's photographs that included two of the selfies snapped by Naruto.

The suit is seeking to have the monkey declared the "author" and legal owner of the photograph.

The picture has been in dispute for more than a year. Website Wikimedia Commons posted some of the pictures snapped by the monkey last year, labeling them public domain, and Slater attempted to have them removed, claiming the copyright he obtained in Britain should be applied globally.

"I've told them it's not public domain, they've got no right to say that it's public domain. A monkey pressed the button, but I did all the setting up," he said.

Wikimedia refused to remove the pictures, saying Slater doesn't own the copyright on the image because he didn't shoot the photo himself.

"Our argument is simple: U.S. copyright law doesn't prohibit an animal from owning a copyright, and since Naruto took the photo, he owns the copyright, as any human would," PETA said in a press release.

PETA is asking the court to allow the group to use the proceeds from the "monkey selfie" to benefit Naruto and other macaques in the region.

Don Jazzy ignores D'Banj on stage

By Ayo Onikoyi

D'banj as a singer and Don Jazzy the producer used to be the perfect team as the honchos of Mo'hits Records. But like a bolt from the blue, their hitherto smooth relationship collapsed in 2012 like a pack of badly arranged cards.

Ever since, fans and colleagues in the music industry have been begging the duo to come back together and rework their magic.

However, what could have been the perfect opportunity for the two heavyweights to address the issue came to pass on Sunday, September 20,at the Eko Hotel-venue of 2face Idibia's Fortyfied Concert.

D'banj mounted the stage to perform some of his hit songs to the delight of the audience, and halfway through, he said he was going to perform a song, 'Feeling Good' produced by Don Jazzy and featuring 2face that was leaked online before it could be properly released.

He beckoned on Don Jazzy to join him on stage to perform the song, but Jazzy remained glued to his seat with new Mavin signees, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Dija.

Even when 2face begged the duo to produce one more hit together, Don Jazzy remained resolute. In 2face's words, 'Don Jazzy and D'banj, abeg make una do one more song, just one…. I take God beg una.'

D'banj instantly responded with the words, "Sure! It's going to happen," while Don Jazzy still remained on his seat without even a smile.

This led many of the guests in attendance to insinuate that D'banj was more eager for a come-back than Don Jazzy.

Saudi Arabia's crown Prince has ordered a thorough investigation into the stampede at the hajj pilgrimage on Thursday.

DAILY POST reports that more than 700 persons were trapped to death in the holy city while performing hajj.

The official Saudi Press Agency reports that, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who chairs the Saudi hajj committee, ordered the probe during a meeting with senior officials responsible for the pilgrimage in Mina, where the stampede took place.

Report says findings of the investigation will be submitted to King Salman, "who will take appropriate measures" in response, the agency added.

At the time, Nayef said the accident would not affect this year's pilgrimage and that the safety of pilgrims was a "priority".

Earlier Thursday, Health Minister Khaled al-Faleh promised that there would be a rapid and transparent investigation of the stampede, which he blamed on undisciplined pilgrims not following instructions.

I Can Do Costa's Dirty Job – Remy

Loic Remy says he is ready to fill Diego Costa's boots and lead the line in the suspended striker's absence as Chelsea look to regain a foothold in the Barclays Premier League.

Frenchman Remy deputised alongside Radamel Falcao in Chelsea's 4-1 win at Walsall on Wednesday night after Costa was banned by the Football Association for clashing with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny at the weekend.

And having scored in the Capital One Cup victory, the 28-year-old is backing himself to do Costa's dirty work in Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United and Southampton while the Spain international is sidelined.

"We will miss him," Remy said of Costa. 'He is so important to the team and winning games. It's a shame for us to have lost Costa for three games.'

On whether he could make up for the battling forward's physical qualities, Remy added: "I don't have a choice. I have to do it because when you play for Chelsea it's a question of giving the best, 100 per cent in every game. Of course, I will do the best I can."

Wednesday night was only Remy's second start of the season, and his third appearance overall, and he admits dusting off the cobwebs could

NEMA boss, others escape mob attack by

DIRECTOR General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidi and officials of the Agency escaped a mob attack by victims displaced by flood in Kaduna, during an assessment tour of the affected areas.

Many people were rendered homeless following a heavy downpour that resulted in the overflow of River Kaduna on Monday.

Sani-Sidi had arrived Kigo road new extension, where over 300 houses were submerged. There a crowd of displaced persons surrounded him, demanding for immediate cash compensation. Some of them insulted the NEMA boss verbally.

One of the victims said: " It is unfortunate you people are here now after we have been rendered homeless since yesterday (Monday) by this flood. As you can see our houses from here, they are now in the middle of this sea of flood. We taught you will bring boats and canoes to rescue our properties, but you are here empty handed, just to come and watch and go to Abuja."

It took the efforts of armed security agents and the community leaders in the area to calm the tension who had already surrounded the officials before they were spared from being attacked.

Sani-Sidi, who cut short his address to the flood victims said, "we are here to assess the unfortunate situation and see how we can immediately offer assistance," adding that the government would come to the aid of all victims.

The situation among the victims, however made NEMA and the state emergency agency officials to cut short their assessment tour to other affected communities like Barnawa, Ungwar Rimi , Tudunwada among others.

Speaking with journalists, Alhaji Sani-Sidi, while reacting to the situation said, "I think this is normal when people are displaced, especially given the fact that they were not prepared for what happened, even though they have been warned."

"You are aware that Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has issued the seasonal rainfall prediction which showed that all these states would experience flood, and now we have the situation at hand. As I speak, about 10 local councils were affected by this flood in Kaduna State, about 16 councils in Jigawa, about 17 in Kebbi, almost 20 local councils in Adamawa State, and other states that were mentioned in the NIMET prediction.

"The first thing to do now is to move them to a safe place. And we spoke with the management of Ahmadu Bello Stadium and they have agreed to give us a place here where we can have temporary accommodation for the flood victims. So that these people can have temporary accommodation pending when the flood recedes. We are going to provide them with food items and other materials."

While reflecting on the reasons for the flood, Sidi further explained: "Certainly, you recall that in 2012 we had a similar incident that was even more devastated than what we are witnessing now. In 2012 when Cameroon released water from its dam, it is routine maintenance they carryout when their dam is going to overflow.
