The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate deployment of a Special Strike Force in Kogi State to combat the menace of kidnapping and other violent crimes within the state and its environs.
Idris said the deployment of the Special Strike Force became imperative as the Nigeria Police Force can no longer watch innocent citizens suffer in the hands of criminals rampaging within the state and its environs.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, on Tuesday in Abuja, quoted the IG as saying that with the presence of the Strike Force, Kogi State and its environs would enjoy peace and tranquillity.
It said Idris however advised those deployed on the assignment not to turn themselves to demi-gods, but to be servants to the people.
"Idris urged members of the public to avail the Special Strike Force with desired cooperation and assistance," the statement added.
Meanwhile, contrary to reports that Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Shuaibu Gambo, was queried over the shoddy investigation into the abduction of a teenager, Ese Oruru early this year, our correspondent gathered that it was AIG Yabo Tambari that was queried.
Findings indicate that Tambari was the AIG in charge of Zone 1,Kano, during the incident while AIG Gambo was the officer that rescued Ese after he was directed to take over the case from Tambari.
A source said, "It was Gambo that actually rescued Ese after he was directed to take over the investigation from Tambari under whose watch the incident happened. Gambo led the operation for the rescue of the teenager after the investigation was bungled by the officers that handled it earlier."
