Sure you have bought a backpack for your child. Beautifully coloured with great  designs. 


Guess you have bought books also, Great !
But please do two things:-


1. Weigh your child on the bathroom scale. 


2. Weigh the backpack. 


3. Then weigh it with his/her books.
If the backpack with his/her books weigh more than 15% of his weight, 
Then you are asking for trouble.
The mathematics may be tough. 
So let's make it simple. 


Assuming your child weighs 20kg
15% of 20kg  is 3kg.
So if the backpack loaded with his/her  books weigh more than 3kg......
There is fire on the mountain.
You are requesting for backaches
Bad postures
And even spinal issues on the long term.

As we prepare for 2019/2020 academic session, remember that and its up to us to protect our children in the little way we can despite the fact that all protection comes from GOD. Please let's consider these few tips

👏 Don't write your child's name where it can be easily seen. Remember that anyone who calls your child by name is no longer a stranger

👏Dont drop your child at the gate and zoom of. Make sure the child enters the class before you go

👏 Always call the teacher later to check if your ward is in class

👏 inform the teacher and school security if you will be coming late

👏 Make adequate alternative if you won't be opportuned to go to their school after closing.

👏 Don't put your total trust in Okada drivers and keke napep rider'

👏 If you have children below ten please ensure that their is an older adult to pick them

👏 Due to the rains, bush part will be very bushy, let them avoid these parts.
👏 Teach your child never to walk alone. 
👏Teach them not to accept ride in the scorching sun
👏 Teach them to stay in school when there is heavy rain. They are not to walk on gutters during rain, its base might be faulty,
👏 please let us endeavour to give our children food to school no matter what, they easily get carried away during break.
Make sure they carry bottle(s) of water so as not to beg for one in school. It can be disastrous.
 Finally, teach them to trust in God and pray 🙏at all times.  
I pray that Almighty God guide and protect our children. All attempt of the evil ones over their lives will be brought to shame.

There are 10 things that every teacher MUST DO on their first day of school. If they want their school year to be successful, then they cannot leave any of these 10 things out. Here they are in no particular order.

*THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 'MUSTS'*

*1.)* Greet Your Students. As your cute little darlings are coming down the hallway, you need to be ready to help them out and greet them. This is definitely not the time to catch up with colleagues you haven't seen all summer. You need to help these Nervous Nellies feel better – and the best way to do that is by making them comfortable with your smile and warm greeting.

*2.) Have Work for Them Right Away (and All Day!).* 
When students enter the classroom – even on the first day of school – there should be something for them to do. This sets the tone for the entire year. They need to understand that, in your classroom, you get down to business and that working (and learning) is a priority. Now, obviously it's the first day, so you may be thinking, "What am I going to have them do on the first day when they enter?" Why not a questionnaire, such as an interest inventory, to get to know them more or have them write about their summer (a writing sample!)?

Make sure you have plenty of things to do on the first day. I always over-planned on the first day because I didn't know just how "this group" would move – were they tortoises or were they hares? You don't want to be standing there unprepared with a few hours left to go; that leads to classroom management issues.

*3.) Introductions.*

  Have each student introduce themselves. There are lots of fun games to play where students have to share a little about themselves.

*4.) Build Community.*

 Building community is important because then, throughout the year, you can work together like a team or a family. This can be done through various team building activities.

*5.) Teach Procedures.*

 It has to be done, but don't just have students just sit and take it all in at once. I made that mistake my first year teaching. I droned on for what probably seemed like decades for those poor kids – and you know what? – they didn't learn my procedures. Mention them as it is time. For instance, mention the procedures for lunch a few minutes before lunch. Seriously – otherwise it's "information overload" and "shut the teacher out" mode.

*6.) Enforce Rules*

 I know some teachers (myself included, at one time) that would not enforce rules on the first day of school because, well, it was the first day. BIG mistake. Make sure you introduce the rules (or create them together) right away and begin enforcing them on the first day – warnings and consequences. You usually don't have to worry about them on the first day of school because they are so incredibly sleepy and in denial that summer is over, but hey, you never know!

*7.) Question and Answer Time.*

This is one of my favorite things to do on the first day. It's a great opportunity for me to make connections with the students and begin building relationships with them. I provide students with a 3×5 index card and allow them to write down any questions they have. They can even ask questions about me. Sometimes the questions are silly and wild (and I answer them kind of silly back – but that is just me!). Not all students have questions, and that's okay. I answer the questions on the cards, and then I share with students a little about myself, including artifacts from my childhood, such as my report cards, my drawings, my handwriting (Mrs. Livingston, I finally finger-space between all my words!), and even pictures from when I was in elementary school. Students need to hear about your childhood and who you are outside the classroom. It helps them see that you also made mistakes and are human, too! The kids learn so much from it and love it!

*8.) Read.* 

Yes, read. On the first day, demonstrate the importance of literacy by creating a time for reading. If you don't want to drag out your library just yet (understandably so), then choose a read aloud – even a picture book that will pique their interest – and just slow down to enjoy reading. We need to create students who have a passion for reading and who enjoy it. (I'm biased, of course, because I love reading.


*9.) Observe and Assess.*

  I know, students get tested and tested and tested. I'm not saying it has to be a formal test, but the reality is that when they come into our classroom, we don't know exactly where they are academically. Sure, we have an idea because of their files and previous teachers. I like to get started right away, because the sooner I can get that information, the sooner I can start teaching. I can't stand "taking days off" so I can assess. Observation is another great way to take note who they are forming relationships with for when you start creating seating charts and so on. (Of course, if you can't get to this on the first day of school, then do try to get to it within the first week!).

*10.) Ease Their Nerves.* 

Students are very nervous on the first day of school. They are nervous about you as a teacher, about their class, about what they will learn this year, and so much more. Even if they have been in school for many years and have many of their friends in the same class – they are still nervous. Help them feel at ease by calming their nerves and giving them a heads up to what they will learn. I always try to give them a "preview," similar to a movie trailer, of what is to come throughout the school year and excite them.

The True Vine (John 15 v 1 - 8)

Vine is a tree that is common in Israel and God has used it severally to represent the nation of Israel (Isaiah 3v14, 5v1-7; Psalm 80 v8-9)
Jesus is the true vine and the branches depend on the vine for their continued life. In Him we are complete ; a branch cannot bear fruits unless it is connected to their source. The Father (God) is the Vine Dresser and the believers are the branches.

Have you ever heard the saying that someone soaks up information like a sponge?

That soaking up is the simplest way of defining absorption; it is simply how we take in information.

Scientists have gone great lengths to prove that we don't all  conform/absorb information in the same way. So the school system of  making everybody read the same way favors some kids while it is a huge  disadvantage for others.

To help your kid,here are the  different ways kids absorb information and I will show you how to find  out which particular pattern suits your kids…

Kids basically learn in three different ways/patterns…

The FIRST is:

**VISUALLY:** (visual Kid learners learn better from things they see, they  have advantage when it comes to reading, videos, graphs, maps etc.)

The SECOND is:

**AUDITORY-ALLY: **(auditory Kid learners learn better from things they hear)

And the THIRD is:

**KINESTHETIC LEARNERS:** Kinesthetic Kid learners learn better in physical  activities, rather than listening to a lecture (the auditory learners)  or watching demonstrations (the visual learners).

# **HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR KID LEARNING PATTERN:**

# **1. VIRTUAL LEARNERS**: If your kid exhibit any of this characters, he or she is a Virtual learner…

• If He or She love to watch advertisements on TV 
 • They understand maps easily 
 • They don't forget faces and places they have been

 • They care about their looks and hate looking tardy

 • Gets bored with long spoken lecture, the type of child that sleeps during sermon in church…

 How Best Virtual Learners Learn:**

 1. They learn and study best in a quiet environment
 2. To help them remember faster, you can draw an image after a concept.  I.e. using info-graphics to define a term/subject definition for them. 
 What I mean is: 
 What is a verb? A verb is an Action Word… draw a picture of a person or  an object showing the expression of VERB AS AN ACTION WORD.

# **2. AUDITORY-ALLY LEARNERS:** If your kid exhibit any of this characters, he or she is an Auditory learner…

- If He or she does better with spoken instruction compared to written instructions

 • She knows a lot of music lyrics even difficult foreign songs 
 • Your child is auditory if he or she finds it difficult to read your body language 
 • They hum and talk to themselves a lot 
 • They tend to talk to you or their dad about everything

**
 How Best Auditory Learners Learn:**

 1.They should Make use of flashcards to learn new words; and read them out loud.
 2. You can Make Arrangement with their teacher for them to sit in front of class because they get distracted easily
 3. Reading should be conversational because they remember what they talk about 
 4. They should read out loud whenever they study 
 5. They should read out loud and record it in a phone and listen to it using an earpiece 
 6. The television or radio should be off when they study because they are naturally drawn to those.

Remember, they need to hear things before they learn.

# 3**. KINESTHETIC Or TACTILE LEARNERS**: If your kid exhibit any of this characters, he or she is a kinesthetic or tactile learner…

- He or she is restless and can't stay still for a long time 
 • Loves to take things apart and put them back together 
 • They won't read novels that don't have pictures in them  
 • They love to dance  
 • They often are athletic and strong 
 • They can spend hours focused on playing with a toy and then fall asleep there 
 - They can easily remember things that were done but may have difficulty remembering what they saw or heard in the process.

**
 How Best Kinesthetic or Tactile Learners Learn:**
 ====================================

 1. Make them pace about (give them break) once in a while when they read 
 • Play soft music in the back ground when they read 
 • After reading ask them questions but instead of them answering, make them write down their answers
 • Make them Trace words with their finger to learn spelling (finger spelling).
 - Use flashcards for them.

Love Language For Kids

Kids are wonderful gifts from God Almighty with exceptional ability to learn and imitate what adults do.

Hence adults need to be careful and always positive where every we do things in the presence of young ones. 

We need to spend quality time with them and always affirm our love for them 

Life lesson in one of the whatsapp group that I belong

*ONE YEAR AFTER SHE CALLED ME AN IDIOT...*

*Important Lessons* 

She asked a question in a general group on WhatsApp. 
I responded to the question professionally. 

She tagged my response and typed: *"you're an idiot"*

I replied: *"Thanks so much, now that you point my attention to this idiotic part of me, I'll surely work on it, God bless you my dear..."*

*And the whole place shook. Over 118 people commented and were so surprised by my response. Of course she was terribly bashed to the extent that she left the group.*

*An hour later she called me to apologise* for her stupidity bla bla bla. 
We became friends. 

Then I ended up handling her premarital counselling sessions. 

Two days ago, on my birthday, she and her husband gave me a gift worth over 1.2million naira.
This was a year after she called me an idiot.

*Life Lessons from this experience.*

*1. MATURITY:* Your reaction to negative feedbacks  or situations shows how mature you are.

*2. CHOICE:* You have the power of choice whenever anybody does or says anything offensive to you.

*3. SELF CONTROL:* If someone calls you anything negative and you lose yourself and begin to fight or shout or do anything terrible, you only prove them right.

*4. SILENCE IS GOLDEN:* It is better to keep quiet and people think you're a fool than for you to open your mouth and they confirm you're truly a fool.
 
*5. DISCERNMENT:* You cannot because the baby pooed in his bath throw the baby away with the bath water.
 
*6. POSITIVE POWER:* You have the power to win people through your maturity and composure and not through overly being more sanctimonious than the person.
 
*7. POSITIVE IMPACT:* Life is all about people. If I had responded to her negatively, I would have lost a friend forever.

*8. WISDOM:* There are people who are sent to you by God to help your journey in life to be worthwhile, your meeting point might be at a fighting point. Be wise, even when you're angry.

*9. HUMILITY:* She was humble enough to call and she apologized. 

*10. RECONCILIATION:* Maybe there's someone you need to reconcile with today also, go ahead and do just that.

*We can all get better with ourselves, with these 10  key lessons.
